Mokokchung: Defending champion MH-10 maintains clean sheet securing spot in quarter-finals

Day 3 of the 16th Imchaba Masters Memorial Nagaland Open Volleyball Trophy delivered thrilling action as the competition saw its first league round complete. Chienino Brothers Kiruphema Kohima and Ozümi Volleyball Team, the sole representative from Mokokchung among the 15 teams, along with the Peren District Volleyball Association (PDVA), secured their spots in the semi-finals, scheduled today from 10:00 AM. Meanwhile, the defending champions, MH-10, continue to dominate the tournament.

The first Semi-Final’s Match Patron will be Imtiyanger Imchen SDO PHED Mokokchung Division, while the Second Semi-Final’s Match Patron will be Dr. Takosunep DPO CMO Mokokchung.

Lanutemsu Deputy Commandant 3 NAP Tuensang and Lanutoshi Aier President, AKM, served as Match Patrons for the 1st and 2nd Quarters and 3rd and 4th Quarters, respectively.

In the first quarter-finals, the Chienino Brothers from Kiruphema, newcomers with four district players, secured a place in the semi-finals by defeating Kumlong Sporting Association, champions of the 2nd Inter Ward Volleyball Tournament in 2023, in straight sets of 25-20 and 25-17, topping Pool A. The Chienino Brothers, who are participating in this tournament for the first time, have made a clear statement that they are here to stay, winning the entire league and proving that their impressive debut in the tournament marks them as a formidable team.

In the second Quarter Final, defending champions MH-10 triumphed over Changtongya Volleyball Association ‘A’ in straight sets 25-17/25-20 to lead Pool B. CVA’s journey was marred by an early injury to their main setter, affecting their performance.

Ozümi Volleyball Team, another new entrant, displayed their strength by winning 25-22/22-25/25-13 against Changtongya Volleyball Association B in the third Quarter Final, securing their spot in the semi-finals as Pool C leaders.

In the last quarter-final, United Changki put up a valiant fight against the Peren District Volleyball Association but fell short in straight sets by 23-25 and 23-25, securing PDVA’s place as Pool D leaders.

Earlier, Chienino Brothers Kiruphema asserted their dominance in the league round by defeating Tongden Club B in straight sets 10-25, 17-25.

In the 32nd match, Changtongya Volleyball Association (CVA) defeated G-Sports from Mokokchung in a hard-fought contest. CVA bounced back after an initial setback to secure their spot as Pool A runner-up, with a score of 25-17, 12-25, and 12-15.

The defending champions of the Imchaba Masters Memorial Nagaland Open Volleyball Trophy, MH10, maintained a clean sheet in the 33rd match, securing a spot in the quarter-finals after defeating JN Aier Memorial Club Yajang C by 25-22, 25-7 in their final league match from Pool B.

The 34th Match of the day witnessed an intense battle between United Changki and Arrchippus Club, Dimapur, vying for the Pool C runner-up position. Changki prevailed in a closely contested match, winning the first set 25-21 and the second set 28-26.

In Match 35 of the 16th Imchaba Masters Memorial Nagaland Open Volleyball Trophy, Longsa Sporting Association emerged victorious against Rongpang Club Tzurangkong in straight sets by 25-16, 25-15, while in Match 36, Changtongya Volleyball Association B secured a quarter-final spot as Pool D runner-up after defeating Tongden Club A by 20-25, 17-25.
