The 19th edition of N.I Jamir Academic Excellence Award organized by the Kohima Ongpangkong Telongjem to felicitate the toppers of the recently conducted HSLC Examination 2025, was held at Molu Ki Kohima on May 24.
SDO (Civil) Peren, Sentilong Ozukum who spoke on the theme, ‘Takotet Kaketshir’ gave a brief history how education was brought to the Ao community by the first American Missionaries and also highlighted that with the introduction of the gospel, the urge to read and learn the bible grew which led to the setting up of the first school in 1878 which later spreading to other villages too.
He emphasized that today Nagaland state stands 3rd in the national literacy rating but also emphasized on the importance of being knowledgeable to tackle with progress and advancement of education.
While sharing the three identities of an educated student, Sentilong pointed out that educated student accepts God as their helper while studying, can cope and are eager to learn about the new innovation and creativity of technology, keep up with education that evolves with the change of time, and has visions to uplift the society without any selfish motives
Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha, S. Supongmeren Jamir, who was the Special Guest, while highlighting a brief history on the life of N. I. Jamir, encouraged the students to be inspired by N.I. Jamir’s humble nature, his zeal to learn and study and his vision to help the people and uplift the society. He also called upon the students to perform all works in deed and not in words and asked them never forget the people who helped them and have no enmity towards anyone. He also called upon all to identify the people who can become great leaders so as to benefit the society as well as the community.

On behalf of the awardees, Moasanen Pongener and Ujaren in their short speeches briefed about their study journey and also the support and advice they received from parents, teachers and well-wishers, and stated that being topper was not the end but only their stepping stone.
Short speeches were also proposed by Minister for Rural Development, Metsubo Jamir and Ongpangkong Mungdang President, Alemtoshi Imsong while the welcome speech was proposed by President, Kohima Ongpangkong Telongjem, Kilangchuba and vote of thanks was given by Member, N.I. Jamir Trust Board of Governors, L. Chubaonen Longkumer.
Altogether, 23 Toppers were awarded a cash prize of Rs 10,000/- each with certificates which were given away by Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha, S. Supongmeren Jamir and initiated by Convenor, N.I. Jamir Trust Board of Governors, Nokchasahi.
