LCYO and Comets Cricket Club both registered victories in the group stage matches on 23 December 2024, earning 3 points each in the ongoing 29th T20 Winter Cricket Challenge organised by the Senior Noble Klan at Wokha.

The first match saw Kohima Hornbills win the toss and opt to bat first. They were bowled out for just 93 runs in 18.6 overs, setting a target of 94 runs for LCYO to chase. Kohima’s innings was built around Imomemba’s 27 runs, but the middle order struggled to provide support.

LCYO’s bowlers were exceptional. Thechamo took 3 wickets for 12 runs in 4 overs, while David Yanthan supported with 2 wickets for just 10 runs in his 4-over spell, ensuring Kohima Hornbills could not post a more competitive total.

In response, LCYO made light work of the chase. Openers Rendemo and Renjanthung put together a solid partnership. Rendemo’s quick 21 runs, along with Renjanthung’s unbeaten 29 runs, guided LCYO to victory with 7 wickets in hand. Thechamo’s standout bowling performance earned him the Man of the Match award.

In the second match of the day, Comets Cricket Club triumphed over WTWE XI by 12 runs in a thrilling contest. Comets CC won the toss and opted to bat first, posting a challenging total of 166 runs in 20 overs. Jitu Timung played a match-winning knock, scoring 76 runs, supported by Nchumbemo Kikon, who contributed 34 runs to the total. WTWE XI’s Martin was the standout bowler, taking 2 wickets for 21 runs in his 4-over spell.

Chasing the target, WTWE XI started slowly, and Comets CC’s bowlers applied constant pressure, picking up wickets at crucial moments. WTWE XI’s captain, Nchumthung Ngullie, fought valiantly, scoring 38 runs, but the middle order failed to build partnerships. In the death overs, Mharomo Murry’s quickfire 18 not out from 7 balls came too late, and the required runs proved too much to chase.

Comets CC’s Faizul Haque was instrumental with the ball, taking 3 wickets for 14 runs in 4 overs, while Wapang Ozukum also picked up 3 wickets for 32 runs in his 4 overs. For his brilliant knock of 76 runs, Jitu Timung was named Man of the Match.
