To mark 50 years since Wokha attained districthood, the Wokha District Sports Council (WDSA) in coordination with the Golden Jubilee Organizing Committee organized a Half- Marathon on Monday with the “Run for Renewal and Transformation”. The Half Marathon (Open Category) was held for both Men and Women while a Walkathon was held for Seniors Citizens.
The Half Marathon Race (Men) was won by Phyobenthung Humtsoe while Renthungo Tsanglao came in the second position and Chonben Tungoe secured the third place.
In Women’s category, Nzanti Lotha came first while Yingabeni Odyuo and Lichumbeni Kikon came second and third respectively.
The Walkathon for Senior Citizens was won by Yanbemo Ngullie. Khoshako Erie came in the second position and Yanpothung Jungio secured the third position.
The Half Marathon race was supported by MLA Y Mhonbemo Humtsoe and was sponsored by the Department of Youth Resources and Sports.
According to DIPR, the Deputy Commissioner and Chairman WDSA, Ajit Kumar Ranjan IAS, flagged off the half marathon race from Wokha Zero-Point to Public Ground for the open category and for the Seniors’ Citizens Walkathon started from PWD Junction and culminated at Public Ground.

During the short function Dr Atheo Murry held a pep talked on fitness & health and Khriesinuo Ngacu fitness trainer demonstrated some technique on fitness.
Former MLA and Ex-Chairman Lotha Hoho, Mhao Humtsoe graced the occasion and gave away the prizes to the winners of various categories.
DSO & YRSO Wokha, Libemo Jami in his welcome address thanked all the winners of the various category, the participants and all the well -wishers for making the event a grand success.
