The 63rd Teachers’ Day celebration, along with a felicitation ceremony for the District Teachers Award recipients, was held today at the Conference Hall of Hotel Whispering Winds. The event was organised by the Ao Students’ Conference (AKM) and witnessed the presence of numerous dignitaries, including Deputy Commissioner Mokokchung, Thsuvisie Phoji.
In his address, Deputy Commissioner Thsuvisie Phoji lauded the teachers for their vital role in shaping society through their dedication and tireless service. He expressed his gratitude to the teachers for their sincerity, selfless sacrifices, and commitment to molding future generations. He also acknowledged the efforts of AKM in honouring teachers by organising such events every year.
The Deputy Commissioner called upon the teachers to be role models for their students, emphasising that teaching is a noble profession. He urged the educators to leave a lasting legacy, stating, “even when we are gone,” and encouraged them to treat all students equally, providing a nurturing environment that allows them to grow into responsible individuals. He congratulated the recipients of this year’s District Teachers Award and encouraged them to continue inspiring and molding students.
The program also featured speeches from the District Education Officer, Mokokchung, and representatives of the All Nagaland Private Schools’ Association (ANPSA), Mokokchung unit. The highlight of the event was the presentation of the District Teachers Award, which was handed out by the Deputy Commissioner. The recipients of this year’s awards are:
1. Lanuyanger, Assistant Teacher, Queen Mary Higher Secondary School
2. Temsuchizung, Post Graduate Teacher, NI Jamir Government Higher Secondary School
3. Moamenla, Primary Teacher, Government Primary School Tuli ‘F’
4. Longrimendang, Graduate Teacher, Government High School Mangmetong

The President of AKM, Lanutoshi Aier, delivered the welcome address, emphasizing the significant impact that educators have in shaping the future. He praised the commitment, passion, and dedication that teachers bring to their profession every day, and recognized the outstanding contributions of the District Teachers Award recipients.
“We are also privileged to have 10 mentors from the 12 Arju Centres initiated by AKM under the aegis of the Nagaland Education Mission Society, Samagra Shiksha Nagaland,” he noted. The Arju Centres are innovative educational hubs where students are taught traditional knowledge, soft skills, life skills, art and craft, social etiquette, and receive remedial classes for their academic education.
The event also featured special performances by Soul House Academy and Straightway Higher Secondary School. The program was chaired by Nochetlong and was attended by officials from the district administration, the Superintendent of Police Mokokchung, and representatives from various civil society organizations, including Ao Senden, Watsü Mungdang, and Mokokchung Town Lanur Telongjem (MTLT), among others.
