The 75th Republic Day was celebrated at Imkongmeren Sports Complex, Mokokchung today 26th January 2024 where Minister of PHED & Cooperation, Jacob Zhimomi unfurled the National Flag, took the Rashtriya Salute and read out the Republic Day Speech, DPRO Mokokchung has informed.

Altogether, nine Parade Contingents took part in the March Past, namely, DEF Mokokchung, 2nd NAP Alichen, 13th NAP (IR), Home Guards, Ex-Servicemen, NCC Fazl Ali College, NCC Mayangnokcha GHSS, Bharat Scout & Guides and 2nd NAP Pipe Band with Parade Commander, Benrio Shitio, Asst. Commandant 2nd NAP, Alichen and Mangjai Phom 2nd in Command.

Other highlights of the programme included, Martial Arts Demonstration by Mokokchung District Martial Arts Association, Cultural Presentation by Mopungsanger Ola, Ungma village and Tug of War match between Ladies Club, Mokokchung and Lady Officers, Mokokchung.

Minister Jacob Zhimomi gave away the Certificate of Merit to the winners of Poetry Writing Competition, Sentinaro Jamir and Odichung Jamir. The competition was held on account of 16 Days Activism against Gender Based Violence on the theme “Unite! Invest to Prevent violence against Women and Girls” an initiative under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Mokokchung.

Later the Minister inaugurated the Exhibition Stalls.

Earlier in the day celebrating the occasion, different departmental institutions and NGOs in Mokokchung visited District Hospital and District Jail.
