The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) has rejected claims by certain staff members of Holy Cross Higher Secondary School (HCHSS) that the Union’s recent intervention was inappropriate and unrelated. The Union asserted that it will continue to respond to grievances raised by parents and students within its jurisdiction, irrespective of whether the concerned institution approves.
In a statement, DNSU said it intervened in the recent matter solely to ascertain facts and act as a mediator to facilitate an amicable resolution. It maintained that the issue was settled peacefully through mutual understanding and that any attempt to escalate the matter after resolution raises questions about underlying intentions.
The Union acknowledged that while some concerns raised by parents were genuine, it exercised restraint and acted responsibly to defuse what had become a sensitive situation. It further stated that institutions unwilling to cooperate with DNSU in the interest of fairness, accountability and transparency risk creating doubts about their own intentions.
Institutions functioning within our jurisdiction must understand that DNSU will intervene whenever necessary to safeguard student interests, it stated.
Stating that the issue was minor and could have been resolved internally by the school management, DNSU said it stepped in only after the matter entered the public domain and did so in good faith. It claimed that the institution’s reputation had not been tarnished, as the matter had already been resolved.
The Union alleged that the situation escalated primarily due to poor communication and the alleged rude behaviour of certain members of the institution’s management, including reportedly asking parents to take transfer certificates for raising concerns.

“Not all parents are highly educated, and it remains the responsibility of educators to patiently explain matters for the betterment of students. Every parent ultimately seeks a better academic future for their child,” the statement said.
While recognizing the importance of clarifications to safeguard an institution’s image, DNSU said it was inappropriate to question or undermine the role of an organization working to protect student interests. It disclosed that during discussions, all parties had agreed to forgive and forget misunderstandings and to keep the matter within the school to maintain harmony. Reopening the issue now, it said, goes against that understanding.
DNSU also questioned the rationale behind the temporary closure of the institution following a matter that had already been resolved amicably. “Such actions create unnecessary anxiety among students and parents, particularly during an important academic period. Decisions affecting the academic environment must always priorities student welfare and continuity of education, and therefore any measure that disrupts normal academic functioning should be carefully justified and communicated with clarity,” the Union stated.
Acknowledging that teaching is a demanding public service, the Union appealed to the staff of Holy Cross Higher Secondary School not to rekindle or escalate the issue, reiterating that it had already been resolved amicably. Any attempt to reopen the matter, it added, would disregard the sincere efforts made towards resolution.
