Government High School (GHS) Bayavü, Kohima, conducted its 61st Annual Sports Meet at the school campus and Indira Gandhi Stadium (IGS), Kohima, from March 24 to 26, 2026.
According to an update from the school, Vedusa, Assistant Headmaster (AHM) of GHS Bayavü, exhorted the students during the inaugural function, stating that the event is one of the most awaited occasions in a student’s life.
He emphasised that sports bring people together, fostering teamwork, respect, and passion. Drawing parallels with global sporting events like the Olympics, he said that sports promote unity and inspire determination and excellence.
Beyond competition, he noted, sports help shape character by instilling discipline, leadership, and resilience, while also contributing to social change by advocating equality and justice.
He further stated that sports go beyond games, leaving a lasting legacy that empowers individuals and builds stronger communities- through both victory and defeat, athletes learn valuable life lessons. The sense of belonging and encouragement that sports provide enables individuals to overcome adversity and push their limits.
“On this field, you will learn lessons no classroom can teach- the value of hard work, the courage to face challenges, and the humility to accept both victory and defeat,” he said.
