Kohima Press Club, in yet another feat, elected its second female President marking a significant step in breaking gender barriers. Vishü Rita Krocha was elected the new President becoming the second woman to hold the position after Alice Yhoshü, KPC’s first female President.

The formal programme for the Kohima Press Club (KPC) Election 2026 was successfully held on March 28 at the KPC Office, APO Building, marking a significant transition in the club’s leadership and reaffirming its commitment to professionalism and unity.

In her acceptance speech, newly elected President Vishü Rita Krocha expressed heartfelt gratitude to the members for their trust and confidence. She paid special tribute to outgoing President Alice Yhoshü, acknowledging her exceptional leadership and unwavering dedication over the years.

Krocha described it as a privilege to have worked alongside Yhoshü for over a decade, highlighting her wisdom, clarity, and resilience in navigating challenges. She emphasized that the strong foundation laid by her predecessor would serve as a guiding force for the new leadership.

“I accept this responsibility with pride and deep gratitude, and I assure you that I will give my best efforts to uphold the values and interests of the Kohima Press Club,” Krocha stated, while also seeking continued support and cooperation from all members.

Delivering her outgoing speech, former President and current Advisor Alice Yhoshü commended the Election Commission for conducting the election with professionalism and integrity, setting a high standard for democratic practice within the organization.

Reflecting on her 12-year journey with KPC, including her tenure as General Secretary and later as President, Yhoshü described the Press Club as her second home. She expressed gratitude to all members and colleagues for their support, collaboration, and shared commitment.

“Together, we celebrated victories, learned from setbacks, and grew as a fraternity,” she remarked, while acknowledging the contributions of past and present Executive Council members.

Yhoshü extended her full support to the incoming team and expressed confidence in Krocha’s leadership, describing her as a capable and respected figure in the media fraternity.

“As I pass on the mantle of leadership, I do so with a grateful heart and the assurance that the Kohima Press Club is in good hands,” she said, urging members to extend the same support to the new leadership.

In his report, Vero detailed the election process conducted by the three-member Election Commission, which included Atou Liezietsu and Wapangsungla Longkumer. The Commission initiated its first sitting on March 1 and, after an unforeseen postponement, successfully conducted the election process culminating on March 28.

The election, conducted under Article VIII of the KPC Constitution through a secret ballot system, saw the participation of 51 registered members.

However, as no contesting candidates emerged for any post, all nominees were elected unopposed. The newly elected Executive Council for the tenure 2026–2029 includes Vishü Rita Krocha as President, Vincent Belho as Vice-President, Seyiekietuo Keretsü as General Secretary, Nzanbemo Khuvung as Joint Secretary, and Reyivolu Rhakho as Treasurer.

The Election Commission congratulated the new team and expressed gratitude to all members for their cooperation throughout the election process.

The programme also featured formal handing over of certificates to the newly elected members.
The programme commenced with an invocation prayer led by Rana Chetri and concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the Chairperson of the Election Commission, Wapangsungla Longkumer.
