Independent candidate, Imchatoba Imchen on Thursday declared his candidature for the 28 Koridang (ST) Assembly Constituency by-election at his native village Mangmetong, outlining his reasons for contesting and appealing for a peaceful and fair election in the presence of the Mangmetong Village Council.

Speaking at the programme, Imchen said that with only a few days left before polling, and the election will end soon. He stated that his decision to contest is rooted in his understanding of the present situation of the state and his intention to represent Mangmetong. “I know where Nagaland stands today, and that is why I want to represent and sacrifice for Mangmetong. I will stand for Mangmetong till the end,” he said.

Referring to the common platform held at Khensa village on March 28, attended by all candidates, Imchen cited remarks made by NPCC Working President, C Apok Jamir, who had observed that while the by-election may not immediately change the state, it presents an opportunity to shape a narrative. He said the elected representative from Koridang should be able to convey what the constituency stands for, so that the Naga people can better understand Koridang.

He further stated that the “Pride of Koridang” is presently diminished and that the outcome of the election should help restore it. He pointed out that attention from the whole Ao’s, Koridang residents, and the Ongpangkong region is focused on the constituency, and expressed that the mandate given in this election should bring back that lost standing.

Imchen said that after campaigning across the constituency, he remains firm in his decision. He stated that he is contesting to uphold the identity and integrity of Koridang and to represent its voice. He also expressed his interest in speaking on Koridang and Naga-related issues at broader platforms, including beyond the state.

Appealing to the people of Mangmetong, particularly the Village Council, Imchen said his intention is to serve based on his experience and understanding, and urged unity among all sections of the village. “I am also a son of Mangmetong, and I strive to take Mangmetong forward,” he said, adding that the village must move together in unity.

He urged voters to carefully exercise their franchise and noted that while the election will conclude in a day, the community will continue to live together.
