Seminar on GST reforms underway at Zizaji Presidency College

A two-day National Seminar on “GST Reforms, Realizing the Vision of Viksit Bharat 2047” commenced today at Zisaji Presidency College, Kiphire, Nagaland.  The event is being organised in collaboration with the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), New Delhi.

The inaugural session was held in the college auditorium, drawing the presence of academicians, government officials, public representatives, NGOs, local entrepreneurs, and students.

The programme opened with the national song, followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp and an invocation. Dr Phyobenthung, Principal of the college, delivered the welcome address, underlining the importance of GST reforms in shaping a developed India.

Dr Purna Chandra Mishra, Vice Principal and Convener of the seminar, provided an overview of the objectives and relevance of GST 2.0.

The inaugural address was delivered by Dheeraj Rastogi, Principal Commissioner of Customs, New Delhi. Prof NMP Verma spoke on the current landscape of GST in India, while Bijayananda Panda from Wipro Ltd presented the keynote address, focusing on GST’s role in economic growth.

As part of the public dialogue session, two officers from the Department of Taxes served as resource persons, sharing practical perspectives on GST implementation and related challenges.

The session also saw active engagement from representatives of NGOs, civil society, government departments, the business community, and students.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr Mamata Panda, Head of the Department of Economics and Co-Convener of the seminar, who expressed gratitude to all dignitaries and participants.

The seminar seeks to foster meaningful dialogue and identify effective approaches to strengthening GST reforms in alignment with the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
