9 shops gutted, 5 damaged in fire incident in Mokokchung

Fire incident in Mokokchung which broke out from a shop at Dilong, opposite the MMC Complex in Mokokchung town on April 21 afternoon left 9 shops gutted, 5 damaged.

According to the Fire & Emergency Services, a fire call was received at 2:36 p.m. Four fire tenders from Fire Station North and Fire Station South were pressed into action, making nine trips to contain the blaze. The fire was brought under control after nearly two hours of firefighting.

Officer-in-Charge, Keleseho Stephen Tsukru, informed that around 20 fire personnel from both stations were involved in the operation, led by SI Nukenmayang Jamir, OC Fire Station South.

A standard fire crew comprises six personnel — one officer, one driver and four jawans.

He stated that nine shops were completely gutted while five others were partially damaged. The affected shops were located in three adjoining buildings. Multiple owners and families have been affected.

The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. No casualties have been reported at the time of filing this report.
