The Nagaland State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NSCPCR) organised a one-day awareness programme on Child Rights at Town Council Hall, Mon on April 29. MLA & Advisor, Department of Social Welfare, Wangpang Konyak graced the programme as a special guest of honour. Konyak said that the awareness programme is for empowering children, educating communities and enforcing protection mechanisms against exploitation and abuse.
He urged the people to enrol their child in the Anganwadi centre. He added that less enrolled Anganwadi Centres will be eliminated. He also urged the people to avoid double entry in the Old Age pension. He also explained the guideline for the benefit of Old Age Pension and urged for Aadhaar registration as it is the main document to avail any Government Scheme.
Deputy Commissioner Mon, Wennyei Konyak, NCS expressed his gratitude to the Nagaland State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NSCPCR) for organising the timely and meaningful programme, a protective programme which is needed on time. Children are the real foundation of our thinking, the strength of our nation for stability of our governance and progress of our nation, he said. However, he stated that the challenges – child labour, exploitation, sexual abuse, lack of education, child marriage etc effect the child specially in the remote area. He said that many parents are not aware of these rights. Konyak underlined that awareness alone is not enough and called for collectively responsibility and involvement of the society. He also assured that the District Administration is committed to strengthen child protection, mechanism and support to ensure that every child has access to education, safety, dignity, promoting awareness, becoming protector of the children.

He urged the stakeholders to work together to create an environment where every child feels safe and the power to achieve their goal. He added that when the children progress today, the future is secured.
Delivering the keynote address, Chairman, NSCPCR, Alun Hangsing, NCS Rtd said it is a very important programme which many parents are not aware of. Explaining the significance of Child Rights, he stated that where children are respected and protected, God resides there. He also said that children are the backbone of a nation. He also briefed on the history of Child Rights.
Programme was chaired by M Alem Konyak, PO(IC) DCPU while vote of thanks was delivered by H Mewang Konyak, Member CWC.
In the technical Session, Lichani Murry, Legal Consultant, NSCPCR spoke on The Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act. Akumla Longchari, Member, NSCPCR spoke on Understanding the POCSO Act; Protecting Childhood. Aying Wangsa Member, NSCPCR spoke on Right to Education. Sevehu Chuzho, DCPO, Mon spoke on Presentation of Status of Child issue in District. After the technical session, there was an open house Discussion.
