The State Election Commission (SEC), Nagaland has officially issued a notification giving effect to the merger of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) with the Naga People’s Front (NPF), following recognition by the Election Commission of India (ECI).
According to Order No. 56/06/2026/PPS-II dated May 4, 2026 issued by the Election Commission of India, the merger was approved based on the decision taken at a meeting held on October 18, 2025. With this development, the NDPP has ceased to exist as a separate political entity.
In continuation of the directive, the State Election Commission Nagaland stated that it had also taken note of earlier results of the General Election to Municipal and Town Councils, 2024, wherein elected NDPP candidates were duly notified and published in the Nagaland Gazette (Extraordinary) vide Notification No. SEC/ELE-RESULT/2024/279 dated July 1, 2024.

In its latest order issued by State Election Commissioner, T John Longkumer (IPS Retd), the Commission clarified that in exercise of powers under Section 31(1) read with Section 44 of the Nagaland Municipal Act, 2023, the party affiliation of all winning candidates earlier shown as NDPP shall now be read as NPF for all practical purposes in the concerned municipalities.
The notification stated that, following the official recognition of the merger, all references to NDPP in the Nagaland Gazette pertaining to the municipal election winners shall stand amended as NPF with effect from the date of publication in the Nagaland Gazette.
