Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Longleng, Thungchanbemo Tungoe, NCS has directed all shopkeepers, roadside vendors, business establishments and individuals to immediately remove encroachments from public footpaths, walkways, roadsides, drains and other public spaces within Longleng Town.
In an order, the ADC stated that several shopkeepers, open vendors and commercial establishments have been occupying and encroaching upon public spaces by displaying goods, construction materials, furniture, temporary structures and other articles. Such practices, the order noted, obstruct the free movement of pedestrians, cause inconvenience to customers, hinder traffic flow and create public nuisance.
The administration observed that unauthorized occupation of public streets, footpaths, walkways and other public areas adversely affects public safety, sanitation, convenience and orderly urban management.
Referring to the provisions of the Nagaland Municipal Act, 2023, the order stated that all public roads, footpaths, pavements, streets and public places are vested in and regulated by the Municipal or Town Council, and no individual is permitted to occupy, obstruct or encroach upon such areas without lawful authority.
Accordingly, all concerned have been directed to remove goods, materials, temporary structures, stalls, furniture and any other articles placed on public footpaths, walkways, roadsides, drains and spaces in front of their premises.

The ADC warned that failure to comply with the order would result in the immediate removal of encroachments, recovery of removal expenses from violators, seizure and confiscation of obstructing materials or structures, imposition of penalties and initiation of legal proceedings as per the law.
The order has been issued in the interest of public convenience, pedestrian safety, smooth traffic movement, cleanliness, public health and the maintenance of civic discipline and an orderly urban environment in Longleng Town. It came into force with immediate effect and is to be strictly complied with by all concerned.
