Khrüvinu Kikhi’s love for gardening started when she was 17 years old. What began as a deep interest in growing flowers soon turned into a thriving venture when people began enquiring to purchase her flowers.

“At first, I grew flowers out of self- interest. The first plants, I cultivated were geraniums and cineraria flowers. It wasn’t meant to be commercialised but people got to know about my plants and started enquiring if I can sell,” recalls Khrüvi.

Encouraged by the growing interest, she gradually transformed her hobby into a business around 2019–2020. Hailing from Viswema village, Khrüvi runs a homestay in her village called Vivi Homestay and also manages an event planning venture – Enoch planner. But among her varied pursuits, gardening remains closest to her heart where she tends to her flowers every morning and evening.

Khrüvi’s flower farm in Viswema caters to both retail and wholesale demands with most of her customers based in Nagaland and Manipur. While she has not yet supplied plants to stores, she has successfully commercialised cut flowers such as snapdragons, limonium statice, and delphiniums.

She also grows flower saplings including petunias, snapdragons, asters, and statice, which are in high demand among gardeners and flower enthusiasts.

According to Khrüvi, floriculture is profitable however it requires dedication and passion. “We also need good marketing and a sufficient plot to grow it on a large scale,” shares the gardener.

To anyone interested in floriculture, Khrüvi encourages aspiring flower growers to begin with what they love.
“Do what you enjoy doing,” she advises. “Start small, understand market demand, learn about flower trends and seasonal occasions, and gradually grow from there.”
