PM-KISAN 23rd Installment released in Tseminyu; farmers urged to adopt sustainable practices

The 23rd installment of the PM-KISAN Samman Nidhi was released at a programme held in Tseminyu on the theme “Direct Support, Stronger Farmers,” alongside the launch of the Khet Bachao Abhiyan campaign aimed at promoting soil conservation and sustainable agricultural practices on June 20.

The programme was organised by Krishi Vigyan Kendra Kohima and the District Agriculture Office Tseminyu in collaboration with BJP Kisan Morcha Kohima District at KVK Tseminyu, bringing together farmers from across the district.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Martina Shitiri, ACTO (Genetics & Plant Breeding), KVK Kohima, gave a brief overview of the Khet Bachao Abhiyan Campaign and stressed the importance of balanced fertiliser use for soil conservation and sustainable agriculture. She highlighted the benefits of Jeevamrit, describing it as a natural enhancer for soil health, and Beejamrit, a low-cost organic seed treatment practice that supports healthier crop growth.

She further noted the growing concern of soil degradation in many parts of India and encouraged the farming community of the North Eastern region to preserve and protect its comparatively healthy soil resources for improved productivity, biodiversity conservation, and sustainable agricultural practices for future generations.

Representing  BJP Kisan Morcha Kohima, Thomas Magh also addressed the gathering and emphasized the role of the organization in supporting farmers and promoting welfare-oriented initiatives for the agricultural community.

Earlier, the programme was chaired by Keneisazo Punyu, DAO Tseminyu. Highlights of PM-KISAN were presented by Atilo Tep, SDAO Tseminyu, while the vote of thanks was delivered by Imtinuksang, SMS, Soil Conservation.

Under the 23rd Instalment of PM-KISAN, more than 9.44 crore beneficiary farmers across the country are set to receive financial assistance directly into their bank accounts, amounting to over Rs 18,880 crore.

The programme concluded with a visit to the demonstration plot at KVK Tseminyu, where farmers and representatives were briefed on conservation practices and sustainable farming methods.
