The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) has expressed serious concern over the delay in the investigation into the alleged fraudulent procurement of an Indigenous Certificate (IC) by Nirmal Jain and the subsequent illegal land transactions linked to the case.

In a statement issued by its media cell, the Union said that while the cancellation of the fraudulently obtained Indigenous Certificate was a significant step towards justice, it strongly urged law enforcement agencies and the district administration to expedite the investigation and accord the case the highest priority.

The DNSU stated that any delay in the investigation undermines public confidence and weakens the rule of law, particularly in matters that directly affect the rights and identity of the indigenous people.

The Union maintained that the issue was not an isolated incident but reflected a broader concern involving alleged illegal land dealings and misuse of government mechanisms. It stressed that a thorough and time-bound investigation was necessary to uncover the full extent of the alleged fraud and to hold all involved accountable under the law..

The DNSU also called upon the concerned authorities to initiate immediate legal action against Girdharlal Sharma and his associates, alleging that they had purchased land without possessing valid Indigenous Certificates. According to the union, such transactions violate existing laws and pose a serious threat to the protection of indigenous land rights.

While reaffirming its respect for non-local residents who live and work peacefully in Nagaland, the union said it would not tolerate any activities that compromise the legal and constitutional safeguards meant to protect the indigenous population.

Appealing to political leaders, administrative officials and law enforcement agencies, the DNSU urged them to act impartially and decisively without external influence. It said ensuring justice in the matter would set a strong precedent and reaffirm the government’s commitment to safeguarding the rights and identity of the Naga people.

The Union further stated that it would continue to pursue the issue through lawful and democratic means while closely monitoring the progress of the investigation. It also appealed to the public to come forward with credible information regarding similar cases so that appropriate legal action could be taken.
