Nagaland Health Department clarifies free Hepatitis B & C services under NVHCP

In response to a representation submitted by the Network of Nagaland Drugs and AIDS Organization (NNagaDAO) seeking clarification on a news item and press advertisement issued in connection with World Hepatitis Day 2026, the Department of Health & Family Welfare, Nagaland has issued a detailed clarification regarding services available under the National Viral Hepatitis Control Programme (NVHCP).

The Department stated that screening tests for Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C are available free of cost at all district hospitals, most Community Health Centres (CHCs), selected Primary Health Centres (PHCs), and some Health and Wellness Centres (HWCs) across the state.

It further clarified that free viral load testing for both Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C is available at district hospitals.

According to the Department, free treatment for Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C is also being provided at district hospitals designated as treatment centres under the NVHCP.

In addition, districts have been authorised to provide free baseline investigations for patients who test positive for Hepatitis B or C. These include Liver Function Test (LFT), Renal Function Test (RFT), Complete Blood Count (CBC), Ultrasound Sonography (USG) of the abdomen, Fibroscan, and Prothrombin Time.

The Department advised the public to contact the nearest government health facility for any information related to services under the National Viral Hepatitis Control Programme.
