The 3rd Quarter Periodic District Jail Inspection was conducted on August 21 under the leadership of

Victo Sema, Principal District & Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman, MDLSA, with the participation of concerned officials.

The inspection began with a review of follow-up action on issues identified during the previous inspection held on May 12, 2026. During the review, the authorities decided to submit an application to the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) at the earliest for construction of a dedicated sentry post and repair of the jail’s perimeter walls, which were reported to be on the verge of collapse.

Emphasis was also placed on improving the skill development and rehabilitation opportunities available to inmates. With regard to computer literacy, it was decided to approach the Industrial Training Institute (ITI) for collaboration in providing proper training and certification to interested inmates.

As part of efforts to promote the physical and mental well-being of inmates, the Department of Youth Resources donated three volleyballs along with a net and two footballs to the jail.

The inspection further decided to coordinate with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) for arranging psychiatric services for inmates. It was also resolved to categorise inmates according to their interests in skill development and approach the District Industrial Officer for the provision of necessary raw materials.

The authorities called for early implementation of the decisions taken during the inspection, stressing the importance of ensuring the safety, security, health, welfare and rehabilitation of inmates.
