Kohima Inter High School Basketball tourney underway

The second edition of the Kohima District Inter High School Basketball Tournament organised by the Kohima District Basketball Association (KDBA) began on October 1 at 13 Assam Rifles (AR), D Block, Kohima.

Director, Directorate of Economics & Statistics, Government of Nagaland, Neidilhou Keditsu, attended the inaugural session as the chief guest. He appreciated the KDBA for organising the tournament and encouraged the participating teams to keep team spirit in mind while wishing them the best as they compete for the championship title.

Addressing the gathering, KDBA President, Khrielasakuo Keretsü encouraged the players to remember that basketball is not only about winning. It teaches discipline, teamwork, perseverance, respect, and sportsmanship. There will be victories and disappointments, but both are part of the journey.

He told them to play with passion, compete with determination, but always play with respect while encouraging them to give their best, support teammates, respect opponents and enjoy the game.

The president also informed that the association has 14 dynamic members committed to providing opportunities for young people to develop their talents and grow through basketball. We hope that this tournament will continue to grow and inspire more young athletes in the years to come.

A total of 28 teams—19 boys’ teams and nine girls’ teams—from various schools across Kohima district are participating in the three-day tournament.

Rev Fr Innocent, SDB, pronounced the invocation, and Virienuo Sekhose presented a special number, while Jordan Mekro, Vice President (Technical), KDBA, administered the oath-taking to the participating teams.

Hundreds of participants, including students, teachers, school administrators, principals, and basketball enthusiasts, took part on the first day of the tournament, which will conclude on October 3.
