World Sight Day observed at District Hospital Longleng and PHC Tamlu

The District Health Society, Longleng, observed the 27th World Sight Day on October 8, held with the theme “Love Your Eyes”, under the National Programme for Control of Blindness & Visual Impairment (NPCB&VI). The observance aimed to promote awareness on the importance of eye health, prevention of avoidable blindness, and timely access to eye-care services.

At District Hospital, Longleng, the programme was chaired by NCS Counsellor, A. Bingmei Phom, NCD. The programme commenced with an invocation by Case Registry Assistant, DMHP/PMAM, Longjei L. Phom, followed by an awareness speech by Ophthalmic Assistant, Y. Chingphuh Phom. Emphasizing on the theme, Chingphuh highlighted the importance of maintaining good eye health, regular eye check-ups, early detection of vision problems, and timely treatment to prevent avoidable visual impairment.

Similarly, World Sight Day observance was also conducted at PHC Tamlu, where Ophthalmic Assistant, Loktinola, delivered an awareness talk on Basic Eye Care, with emphasis on preventable eye diseases and refractive errors. As part of the observance, eye screening was conducted at PHC Tamlu, and reading glasses were provided to the beneficiaries requiring it, thereby facilitating improved vision and access to basic eye-care services.

The observance at both health facilities served as an important platform to strengthen community awareness on eye health and to encourage individuals to take proactive steps towards protecting their vision.
