ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Longleng conducted an oyster mushroom cultivation training programme at Dungkhao Village, Longleng District, on October 9 to promote mushroom cultivation as a sustainable livelihood and income-generating activity for rural households.
Shubhendu Kumar Behera, SMS, ICAR-KVK Longleng, conducted the training. Dr Kalu Ram, SMS, ICAR-KVK provided technical guidance on post-harvest handling, processing, and value addition to reduce losses and enhance farmers’ income. The programme was organised under the guidance of Senior Scientist and Head, ICAR-KVK Longleng.
Heads of all nine Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in the village and the Village Council Chairman participated to support wider dissemination of mushroom cultivation technology. The SHG heads will share the knowledge and skills gained with other interested farmers, promoting horizontal dissemination from one farmer to another.

Farmers actively participated, raised queries, and expressed keen interest in adopting mushroom cultivation. Their response highlighted the potential of mushroom farming to strengthen rural livelihoods, promote entrepreneurship, and support SHG-led income generation.
The programme was facilitated by the valuable support and cooperation of Y Molim Phom, Village Council Chairman, Dungkhao Village, whose contribution ensured smooth organisation and active community participation.
Participants expressed their gratitude to ICAR-KVK Longleng for the technical training and guidance. The initiative reflects the KVK’s continued commitment to transferring scientific technologies to farming communities and expanding sustainable livelihood opportunities across Longleng District.
Through such farmer-centric extension activities, ICAR-KVK Longleng continues to promote scientific mushroom cultivation, strengthen SHGs, and encourage rural entrepreneurship for improved farmers’ income and livelihood security.
