Nagaland received the most funds under Schemes of North Eastern Council (NEC) and North East Road Sector Development Scheme (NERSDS) during the last three years (2019–2022) according to Minister of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) G Kishan Reddy’s written reply in the Rajya Sabha today.
Rs 312.28 was disbursed to Nagaland, the statement said, of which Rs 36.91 crores were received in 2019-20, Rs 35.63 crores in 2020-21 and Rs 239.74 in 2021-22.
According to the report, a total amount of Rs 3,229.07 crores have been disbursed to the eight states of Northeast India and other agencies by NEC under Schemes of NEC and NERSDS in the three years, Rs 1243.28 crores in 2019-20, Rs 852.52 crores in 2020-21 and Rs 1133.27 crores in 2021–22.
In the list of the Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) and financial assistance provided to them for promotion of socio-cultural activities during the last three years, Ankon, an NGO from Assam, was granted financial assistance of Rs 129.25 lakh by NEC, while North East Christian University from Nagaland was provided Rs 6.40 lakh.
Also, according to the statement, the length of roads constructed/upgraded/ rehabilitated under the Schemes of NEC and NERSDS since inception in the North Eastern Region is 11378.88km.
The objective of the North East Road sector Development Scheme (NERSDS) is to take up rehabilitation/construction/upgradation of roads (including bridges on the roads) in the North Eastern Region (NER) that are – vital connectivity for one state but neglected; are in socio-politically neglected pockets; required for security or strategic viewpoint and not covered in any other programmes; necessary from the viewpoint of market access.
Under the scheme, 2370.32km of roads have been built in the state of Assam under NERSDS and 1806.45km in Nagaland, as per the report given by the Minister of DoNER.
