Nagaland Polls: Displeased NDPP MLAs continue to resign

Kohima: Ten NDPP MLAs have tendered their resignations since the party’s candidate list was announced on Thursday

Displeased over not been issued party tickets to contest in the Nagaland General Election 2023, a total of 10 NDPP MLAs have tendered their resignations since the party’s candidate list was announced on Thursday.

Alemtemshi Jamir from 25 Mongoya A/C, one of the founders and working president of Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party, stepped down on Friday. Expressing his disappointment Jamir stated “My contributions in establishing NDPP as a regional party in Nagaland has been disregarded and I have been denied a party ticket in the current election”.

9 other MLAs had on Thursday submitted their letters of resignation to the Speaker, Nagaland Legislative Assembly which Speaker Sharingain Longkümer accepted and consequently declared the seats to their constituencies vacant.

These NDPP MLA are Er. Picto Shohe, NDPP from 32-Atoizu A/C; Amenba Yaden, NDPP from 21-Tuli A/C; L. Khumo, NDPP from 57-Thonoknyu A/C; Dr. Chotisuh Sazo from 18- Chazouba; Er. Zale Neikha from15- Southern Angami-II; Yitachu from 20- Meluri; Keneizhakho Nakhro from 8- Western Angami; Azheto Zhimomi from 3- Dimapur-III and YM Yollow Konyak from 42- Wakching.

Earlier, 4 MLAs had resigned before the release of the list. On 21 January, Imkong L Imchen from 28-Koridang A/C, one of the top NDPP leaders, announced that he was leaving the party and it was not a shocker to find his name in the BJP’s list of candidates for 27 February polls.

Muthingnyuba Sangtam, MLA from 52 Longkhim-Chare A/C; Toyang Chang, MLA from 53-Tuensang Sadar-I A/C and Thongwang Konyak, MLA from 46-Mon town A/C had stepped down before the declaration of the Party list of candidates.
