The number of candidates for the 14th Nagaland Assembly election scheduled to be held on 27 February stands at 200, after the scrutiny of nomination papers was conducted without reports of any untoward incidents on Wednesday.
Three candidates have withdrawn their candidature, the office of the Chief Electoral Officer Nagaland informed. They are P. Engo Konyak of Republican Party of India (Athawale) from 47 Aboi A/C, H.B. Moba of Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) from 55-Tobu (ST) A/C and T. Likhumse Sangtam, an Independent candidate from 59-Seyochung-Sitimi (ST) A/C.
P.Engo Konyak and H.B. Moba will now contest as Independent candidates, whereas T. Likhumse Sangtam had withdrawn from the NLA election 2023 altogether.
12 political parties are in the race while there are also 31 independent candidates in the fray for the forthcoming election.
The constituency with the highest number of candidates is 12 Tseminyu A/C where 7 of them are in the ring.
Unlike earlier times, no candidate is likely to win uncontested in the 2023 general election in Nagaland.
