Rupa Dutta, Principal Economic Adviser, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Government of India, said on Wednesday that eleven districts in Nagaland are under ‘One District, One Product’ and that the approach offers huge opportunity to scale up the quality and quantity and make them exportable.
Dutta was speaking at the inaugural session of the fourth and last G20 Business Meet in North East, focusing on Opportunities for Multilateral Business Partnership in Agriculture, Food Processing, Tourism and Information Technology.

She stated that DPIIT which looks at promotion of industries and internal trade, has two engagement groups – the B20 and Start-Up 20. Pointing out that GI initiative, which is also part of DPIIT, she said that three has farm products – the Naga Mirchi, the Naga Tree Tomato and the Naga Sweet Cucumber – from Nagaland have been GI tagged.
Dutta also mentioned that the Government has launched Mission Organic Value Chain Development for the North East Region, which aims at development of certified organic production in a value chain mode, this can promote social entrepreneurship and start-ups. She further said that Nagaland has not only immense agro resources, but with a positive and progressing population available, Nagaland has ample potential in skill development, an area where the start-ups can do a lot of good works.
