The Rising People’s Party (RPP) has demanded that Nagaland Government convene a special session of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly at the earliest and pass resolutions opposing the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) and The Forest (Conservation) Amendment Bill (FCA), 2023.
Mentioning that the Kerala Legislative Assembly had already passed a resolution against UCC, the Rising People’s Party questioned if the NDPP-BJP “can safeguard us in the face of the central government’s onslaught” in the form of the UCC and the FCA.

“The people’s mandated NDPP-BJP Coalition should HAVE the eagerness to protect the state from any adverse agenda which seeks to render the constitutionally protected state of Nagaland impotent with legislative measures such as “The Forest (Conservation) Amendment Bill, 2023,” or the UCC, which if implemented, would render Article 371A inconsequential,” RPP stated in its press release on Thursday.
It expressed no faith in the Chief Minister’s proclamations that Nagaland is already protected from the FCA and the UCC by Article 371A.
“Any government styling itself as a regional party should be willing to protect the territorial integrity of the state at any cost”, Rising People’s Party said while condemning the “ugly sequence of surrenders to majoritarian politics” for the fear of stoppage of central funds.
