USSC enters 3rd phase of agitation, imposes indefinite closure of all govt schools within Sangtam jurisdiction

Kiphire: Conference reaffirms its steadfastness on its three charter demands

The United Sangtam Students’ Conference (USSC) has initiated the 3rd phase of its agitation against the non-fulfillment of its three charter demands by the Directorate of School Education, Kohima, Nagaland.

In this phase, USSC has imposed indefinite closure of entire government school within Sangtam jurisdiction under Kiphire District, Longkhim Sub-Division and Tsithrongse, Sangtamtila, Mürise starting today, 13 September 2023.

The conference’s three charter demands are

  1. Immediate cancellation of transfer of teachers with post, and without relievers and ensuring equitable distribution of teaching staff
  2. Detachment teachers from VIPs (MLA), Directors, DEO, Sr. SDEO and SDEOs and their redeployment to their designated places of posting
  3. Redeployment of shortage of teachers in every mentioned school

United Sangtam Students’ Conference has reaffirmed that it will continue to steadfast till its demands are fulfilled, It stated that its efforts are for the welfare of the entire district and not for personal gains.

USSC staged its 1st phase of agitation on 8 August 2023 where the student leaders and students held a peaceful demonstration at Kiphire. An ultimatum was also submitted to the Principal Director, DSE giving the department seven days to fulfill its demands.

The 2nd phase of agitation took place on 22 August 2023. All the education offices including that of the District Education Officer, Senior Sub-District Education Officer and the SDEO in Sangtam areas in Kiphire and Tuensang were locked down. Later USSC sent another representation to the Principal Director, DSE.

The students’ body had earlier sent three representations and two ultimatums to the department before it began its agitation.
