The 5th Open Basketball Trophy of Oriental College began today with Pele Khezhie, Chairman D Khel Council as the Special Guest for the opening. The four-day tournament will continue till September 22, at Oriental College, Seikhazou, Kohima.
In his speech, Pele Khezhie mentioned that basketball is a sport that brings people together and unites all under one common bond, regardless of our diverse backgrounds, cultures, or beliefs. “This tournament symbolizes the power of unity and the strength that can be derived from working together towards a common goal,” said Khezhie reminding the gathering that the real victory lies in the spirit of sportsmanship, sense of unity, and mutual respect.
“This tournament not only provides an excellent platform for athletes to showcase their talents but also serves as a source of inspiration for aspiring young players. For those youngsters in the audience dreaming of dribbling like the great Kobe Bryant, shooting like Stephen Curry, or making graceful moves like LeBron James, today is an opportunity to witness firsthand the incredible passion and skill that exists within our very own community,” Khezhie added.

Basketball also stands as a testament to the power of sports in generating positive change. According to Khezhie, Sports instils values of discipline, perseverance, and resilience which extends far beyond the court and can shape individuals in overcoming struggles in life.
The Special Guest further encouraged the gathering “to applaud not just for the winners but for every participant who steps onto the court and to celebrate their achievements, big or small, and remember that success is not solely defined by victory, but also by the lessons and personal growth that come from participating in the beautiful game of basketball.”
Tumben Ngullie delivered the keynote address, while the invocation was pronounced by Akhrienuo Yhor. Vizotuo Thorie lead the administration of oath for players of the 5th Open Basketball Trophy of Oriental College
