The Office of the Kohima Chamber of Commerce & Industry (K.C.C.I) has issued a public notice on October 5 to sensitize the public on the “tremendous stress and burden” undergone by the business community in Kohima due to excessive demand for charitable donations.

“The business community of the Capital Town is under tremendous stress and burden due to excessive approach for patronizing many a philanthropic and charity deeds,” stated the KCCI.

According to the KCCI, the business community in the Capital has continued to offer its best and quality services to the citizens while also try to earn a livelihood for themselves. However, traders are also compelled to part ‘huge chunks of one’s livelihood’ with the constant seeking of philanthropy by various organisations, besides the annual collection fees from other quarters.

“The trading community is fatigued from the numerous yearly collections from various elements and also by adding more salt to the wound comes, Buffets, Concerts, Dinner Packs, Lotteries, Raffles, Calendars, Fund raisers and other Multiple Drives. These collections have not only drained the business community economically but emotionally and psychologically as the Modus Operandi of coercing is adopted to fleece out the businessmen of their hard earned money,” asserted the KCCI.

While the K.C.C.I encouraged its members to be magnanimous in extending goodwill to foster a healthy relationship with the public, it has also  appealed to all concerned that business sectors cannot be deemed as the “Charity Baskets where, everyone or anyone is entitled a portion of one’s arduous yields.”
