Jean-Pierre also informed that Biden would be travelling to Amman, Jordan to meet King Abdullah, Egyptian President Sisi, and Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas where the US president “will reiterate that Hamas does not stand for the Palestinian people’s right to dignity and self-determination and discuss the humanitarian needs of civilians in Gaza.”

Soon after the attack on 7th October, the United States “unequivocally” condemned the “appalling assault against Israel by Hamas terrorists from Gaza”, President Biden had stated that he had conveyed to Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu that the US “stand ready to offer all appropriate means of support to the Government and people of Israel.” Asserting that “Terrorism is never justified”, Biden affirmed that the US Government’s support for Israel’s security was rock solid and unwavering.

On 8th October, Biden apprised Netanyahu that additional assistance for the Israeli Defense Forces was on its way to Israel with more to follow over the coming days. The two leaders committed to stay in regular contact over the coming days.

On 9th October, Biden along with President Macron of France, Chancellor Scholz of Germany, Prime Minister Meloni of Italy and Prime Minister Sunak of the United Kingdom released a joint statement where the leaders expressed steadfast and united support to Israel, and unequivocal condemnation of Hamas.

“All of us recognize the legitimate aspirations of the Palestinian people, and support equal measures of justice and freedom for Israelis and Palestinians alike. But make no mistake: Hamas does not represent those aspirations, and it offers nothing for the Palestinian people other than more terror and bloodshed.” – the joint statement said.

Biden had on 14th October spoken to President Mahmoud Abbas of the Palestinian Authority and “condemned Hamas’ brutal attack on Israel and reiterated that Hamas does not stand for the Palestinian people’s right to dignity and self-determination.” Abbas briefed Biden about the urgent need for humanitarian assistance to Palestinian people, particularly in Gaza.

In their conversation, “Biden detailed efforts to coordinate with partners to prevent the conflict from widening, and the two leaders discussed the need to preserve stability in the West Bank and the broader region.”

On 16th October, Biden also has telephonic conversations with President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi of Egypt and Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani of Iraq. The leaders discussed the importance of addressing the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza, in coordination with the UN and regional partners.
