Nagaland opened its tab at the National Games 2023 when the women’s Regu Pencak Silat team won Bronze. The team comprised of Liike Kibami, Hinokali and Avikali V Sheqi and was coached by Deep Kumar. Kashito Kiba is the manager of the Nagaland Pencak Silat team.
Reacting to the wonderful news, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio took to X to announce, “Nagaland wins first medal at the 37th National Games, Goa. Congratulations to Nagaland women’s Pencak Silat team for winning Bronze Medal in the Women’s Regu category.”
CM Rio also said that the players have “represented the State very well” and wished them “more success.”
Adviser to CM and Secretary general of Nagaland Olympic Association, Abu Metha lauded the players of the Pecak Silat women’s team on winning on X. “Fantabulous news to begin the weekend !! And Girl Power Again !!” Metha also commended the support team for “able leadership and mature guidance.”
“Congratulations and Keep Making Nagaland Proud,” he added.
Pencak Silak is making its debut at the 37th National Games in Goa. Pencak Silat is an Indonesian fighting sport which collectively encompasses martial arts of various styles. This form of fighting involves, striking, grappling techniques, and throwing. In addition, fighters are allowed to use certain types of weapons. Pencak Silat involves full-body fighting, where any part of the body can be used and any part of the body can be attacked.
Nagaland is being represent by an eleven-member contingent at the 37th National Games.
