Kohima’s New Market Youth Organisation (NMYO) celebrated its Golden Jubilee on December 10, with the theme “Retrospect the past, celebrate the present, welcome the future.”
Salhoutuonuo Kruse, Minister of Women’s Resources and Horticulture, and Dr. Tseilhoutuo Rhutso, MLA, graced the event as the Guest Speaker and Guest of Honor. Marking the remarkable progress and unity within the community, Kruse stressed the significance of equality in contemporary society and lauded the advancements in various areas, notably in football, which have extended beyond Nagaland. She also highlighted the pivotal role of youths as the foundation and future leaders of society, emphasizing the necessity of guiding them toward a positive future. Furthermore, Kruse commended the community for its collective responsibility and unity.
Motivating the gathering to pursue a better future, Kruse urged them to leave behind negative habits and focusing on positivity. The importance of gratitude and consideration for a promising future, was also highlighted where Kruse urged them to envision themselves as leaders and work towards the betterment of tomorrow. Acknowledging the challenging nature of the world, citing issues such as unemployment, factionalism, religion, and the influx of immigrants as major obstacles, Kruse highlighted the pressing issue of unemployment and the limited capacity of government jobs to address the massive number of job-seeking youths. She urged the individuals to actively seek out government assistance programs and opportunities, rejecting laziness in favor of hard work to achieve fulfillment. Further, the minister spoke on the significance of forgiveness during the Jubilee, encouraging people to learn to forgive each other.

Meanwhile, Dr. Tseilhoutuo Rhutso, MLA, reflected on the significant changes that have taken place over the past four decades, particularly in the area of cleanliness. He commended the strong connections observed among the youth, their outstanding achievements in sports, and their dedicated service to the community, emphasizing the virtues of honesty and unity within the colony. Rhutso reaffirmed his commitment to initiating positive change throughout Kohima, with the support of the New Market ward. Additionally, he called for a collective abandonment of tribalism, recognizing that it poses a threat to the community, and advocated for a shift towards unity and understanding.
To the youngsters, the MLA urged them to learn stories from their elders and to share those stories as they grow older.
During the event, Ruokuobeizo Nyusou, NMAP chairman greeted the gathering while K.Andrew Tepa, President, NMYO delivered the welcome address. The program was blessed with an invocation by Zhabu Gwirie, Pastor UCRC and the vote of thanks pronounced by Kenei Nakhro, Convenor, Jubilee planning and organising committee .
