Education is the passport to our future : MLA Benei M Lamthiu addresses 50 years celebration of Pang Students’ Union

The Pang Students Union celebrated its 50th year of existence under the theme: Vision Infinitum at Pang Public Ground, Noklak District on December 19. Benei M Lamthiu, MLA 57 AC graced the occasion as special guest and L.Khumo former MLA 57 AC as the Valedictory Guest.

MLA Benei M Lamthiu while addressing the gathering stated that the celebration is a big achievement which will go down to the history of Pang Students Union. Asserting that the day is both a joyous occasion and also a sad reality on the other hand, Lamthiu challenged the union if it is truly satisfied with the vision it had since the formation of the union. With the celebration, the MLA urged the youths to think back to the past and further challenged the union to have a target and promise of producing numbers of officers in the next 25 years. While advising the Union to develop a clear vision and content, the MLA rued, “For how long will our tribe be tagged as backward?”

Lamthiu called out ‘ism’ as an epidemic stating, “The feeling of ‘ism’ is too much in our society which is one reason why we are not able to march ahead as one’. To have peace and progress in every developmental aspects as individual or as society, we have to set ‘ism’ apart.”

“Though education arrived late in the land, it is not too late to begin again,” said Lamthiu asserting that the Jubilee itself is a prove that ‘Khiamniungans are second to none when it comes to hardwork and seeking knowledge.’ Lamthiu also advised the gathering to use Education in the right path. ‘Education is the passport to our future,” advocated Lamthiu, who also challenged the community to change their mentality for better progress.

Earlier, MLA Lamthiu unveiled  the monolith of 50 years celebration of Pang Students Union and a jubilee souvenir. In commemoration of the Jubilee, the Pang Students’ Union held an open Volleyball Tournament for Pang and Pangking citizens from December 8 to 9, 2023.

The celebration was chaired by Puthso T & Chonghoi Taopou, while invocation was pronounced by Deacon L.Jong, and Welcome address by K. Hoamo, VCC Pang. Short speeches were delivered by representatives from Pang Students’ Union, Peshu Rang Students’ Union , Khiamniungan Students’ Union. A special number was presented by Thsoiphu Students ‘ Union , M.Cheye . The first president of PSU delivered the pioneer speech while the prayer for blessing was pronounced by Pastor, PBC and vote of thanks delivered by Convenor, Jubilee planning board and benediction by Deacon, T. Pheniang.
