Working Committee of the 7 NNPGs led by its Convenor N Kitovi Zhimomi with the then Peace interlocutor R Ravi.

A ten-member delegation of the Working Committee of the Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs) landed in New Delhi this evening to “fine tune the political process” which has already been agreed upon in order to facilitate an honourable and acceptable solution to the protracted Indo Naga political issue.

NNPGs Working Committee Co-Convenor Isak Sumi reiterated that for the seven NNPGs, all issues have been officially declared and concluded on 31 October 2019 except to fine tune the political process in order to culminate the political solution.

The Working Committee of the NNPGs is slated to meet the Naga peace interlocutor A K Mishra on 28 September.

Sumi also stated that during the meeting with the Core Committee on Naga Political Issue (CCoNPI) last week, the NNPGs had conveyed to the Core Committee that they have taken a consensus decision to prevent elections if the solution does not arrive before the general 2023 election.

“The yearning of the entire Naga public is for solution and not another election so it is also the desire of the NNPG to usher in a new era through political solution at the earliest. So, the Working Committee of the NNPGs have taken the decision to prevent election without solution. So, we have made it very clear to the CCoNPI regarding the decision the Working Committee have taken,” stated Isak Sumi.

Significantly, he said the Core Committee responded positively and made it known to the NNPGs that both Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and Dy Chief Minister Y Patton have directed their respective political parties not to initiate any election campaigns for the forthcoming election until and unless a definite decision for the solution is arrived at.

Furthermore, Sumi said the 14 September Accordant in a way is a reaffirmation of the “Covenant of Reconciliation” between the different political parties that was initiated by the Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR).

Sumi stated that an understanding needs to be arrived at between the different political parties because the Naga negotiators and the GoI have been emphasizing on the theme of “One issue and one solution”.

“If we are to arrive at a logical conclusion then we need to come to an understanding and any such misgivings should all be sorted out before signing the final agreement,” said Sumi.

He, however, stated that the negotiation is between the political parties and the GoI, and not between the WC and the NNPGs or the NSCM-IM.
