The All Ward Union Mokokchung Town (AWUMT) held its Change of Guard today at the AWUMT office building.
In his address, outgoing President Limanungsang stated that he, along with six other members, had worked for three years from 2021 until today. He acknowledged the members who had supported them during this period. He also recognized the incoming president, stating that he Is a well-experienced member and expressed confidence that he, along with the rest of his team, would lead AWUMT forward.
Limanungsang also reflected on their tenure, noting that they encountered many challenges, but the wisdom and knowledge shared by the office members and Presidential Council were immensely helpful. He added that whoever is chosen as the office bearers today, all six of them are looked up to and encouraged to work for the people. He urged the members to support and encourage them in every possible way and assured that even after leaving office, they are ready to help whenever needed. He further emphasized their vision and urged everyone to work hard together to achieve it, being informed citizens to take AWUMT forward in the best possible ways.
Incoming President Lemasashi, who is also the Chairman of Alempang Ward, stated in his address that the new team is ready to lead AWUMT in the best possible manner and requested the support of prayers, wisdom, and knowledge from everyone.
Addressing the Press, when asked about measures to ensure transparency and accountability in his administration and community involvement in decision-making processes, Lemasashi responded that AWUMT is a collective body that maintains transparency in all its work. He mentioned that they hold a general meeting known as the Federal Council meeting, where the council comprises all ward executives, including the Gaonboras, to make decisions for the town. In case of an emergency, they call a general council meeting, where each ward’s members, males aged 18 and above, are required to attend.

Members of the AWUMT acknowledged the outgoing President and his team for their achievements during their tenure. They highlighted successes in overcoming hurdles such as Covid-19, handling Urban Local Body (ULB) matters, power upgradation in Salangtem Ward, and various other issues and discussions.
Bendang Jamir, Chairman of Arkong Ward, chaired the program, while Rev. Dr. Bendang Lkr, Pastor of Artang Ward, offered prayers for the outgoing and incoming teams.
