Common Facility cum Collection Centre inaugurated at Okotso village

A new common facility cum collection centre was inaugurated by Advisor for Agriculture Mhathung Yanthan at Okotso village on July 12.

With the lack of storage facilities which are crucial for the farmers produce, Advisor Yanthan stated that the new facility will help farmers produce in abundance. He also highlighted the region’s potential in producing  fresh organic vegetables and fruits. Urging villagers to maximize production, the Advisor assured them that the new centre will enable them to store their produce and facilitate distribution to other districts and markets. Though the storage facility is located in Okotso village, Yanthan also expressed optimism that neighbouring villages can use the storage system.

In his speech, Sunep Longchar, District Agriculture Officer Wokha encouraged the farmers to keep the facility stocked with fresh produce. With the centre is now built, its success depends on the farmers, said Longchar.

Following the inauguration, Advisor Mhathung Yanthan paid a visit to the Government Higher Secondary School in Sungro Village. The Advisor acknowledged Sungro School which received 100 percent pass result in the HSLC examination 2024, and further praised the school for its consistent academic success and for producing good students and good results. The school has an enrolment of 139 students.

During the visit, the teachers or Sungro school also addressed concerns about the inadequate infrastructure in the recently constructed higher school building. Yanthan responded that discussions are underway with the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan which the department promised to address the infrastructural needs by August.

Principal R Mhonluni Yanthan also informed that the school runs an after-school camp where students return after school  to continue studying. The Principal shared that the camp faces issues with electricity.

During his visit, Advisor Yanthan provided a solar inverter, Xerox machine, a computer set, two brush cutters and agricultural supplies with  agriculture being a vocational subject at the school. He further assured support with more equipment in the future.
