Special Registration cum Health Screening Camp being organised for migrant workers in Kohima

Kohima: Camp offering free services including labour card registration, eShram registration, account opening services, health screenings

The Nagaland Building and Other Construction Workers’ Welfare Board (NBOCWWB) is conducting a special registration camp for unregistered migrant workers at the Smart City Hotel construction site in Kohima Town. The Department of Labour and the Department of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Nagaland, are organising a health screening camp for the migrant workers alongside the registration camp.

The event is aimed to information and to provide support to the inter-state migrant workers and will conclude on Wednesday, DIPR has informed. Deputy Commissioner, Kohima, Kumar Ramnikant, IAS, inaugurated the camp, and urged migrant workers to stay informed and register to avail the various schemes. He emphasized the importance of self-care and encouraged workers to utilize the free facilities provided at the camp.

Chairing the programme, Assistant Labour Commissioner of Kohima District, Neimenuo, expressed gratitude to the participants, emphasizing the vulnerability of migrant workers and their limited access to healthcare services. She also highlighted the Labour and Medical Departments’ efforts to organize the health screening camp, which provided free medical services.

Deputy CEO, NBOCWWB, Vikehieto Naki discussed and deliberated on the Ministry of Labour & Employment’s eShram portal which enables workers to access various schemes. He informed that the Welfare Board offers social security schemes to registered workers, including tools grants, insurance cover under the Aam Admi Bima Yojana (AABY), medical assistance, children’s education allowances, and maternity benefits. To date, the Welfare Board has registered 6,661 workers in the state.

Dr. Kevi from the Medical Department provided an orientation on vector-borne diseases such as malaria, dengue, and chikungunya. He stressed the importance of maintaining a clean environment to prevent these diseases and encouraged workers to visit the nearest government health centres for blood tests at the first sign of illness.

The camp offered free services, including labour card registration, eShram registration, account opening services, and health screenings. Additionally, mosquito nets and medicines were distributed to all migrant workers by the Medical Department.
