The launching programme cum training session on mushroom cultivation, organised by Tchumero VLO, took place on 19th November 2024 at Meriyan Village, with Chenithung Tsanglao, DPO, IFAD Wokha, Nagaland, serving as the resource person.
Tsanglao explained that growing oyster mushrooms requires strict hygiene and careful attention at every stage. Giving a step by step description, he mentioned that while the method is not very complicated, maintaining cleanliness and paying attention is crucial.
He encouraged the self help groups (SHGs) to pay close attention and learn the techniques, as this could help them build a sustainable source of income. The DPO, IFAD Wokha, also assured them that IFAD would provide any necessary support and assistance to help them succeed in mushroom farming.
In her welcome speech, Benrilo Lotha, President of Tchumero VLO, expressed heartfelt gratitude to Chenithung Tsanglao for his valuable presence and support during the programme’s launch. She emphasised that the VLO’s vision is to empower women and offer them every possible opportunity to thrive through this initiative.
The event was attended by Alow Khuvung, Chairman of Meriyan, Mhonchumo Khuvung, Lead Farmer, and Bipenthung Humtsoe, Area Coordinator for NSRLM Livelihood, as well as members from various SHGs under Tchumero VLO in the Wozhuro Block.
Following the formal proceedings, Chenithung Tsanglao led a practical training session on mushroom cultivation.
This was followed by a discussion hour, where SHG members had the opportunity to interact directly with the resource person, seeking advice and sharing insights.
The programme was chaired by Nzano Khuvung, with the invocation delivered by Thachano Tsopoe. Benrilo Lotha, President of Tchumero VLO, gave the welcome address, while the vote of thanks was presented by T. Lochumbeni Tsanglao, Secretary of Tchumero VLO. The event concluded with a benediction by Orentsani Khuvung.
