Constitution Day, also known as Samvidhan Diwas Padyatra, took place on November 26, organized by the Nehru Yuva Kendra Sangathan (NYKS) in Nagaland and JNV Yakukie, Kohima.
Anthony Ngullie, Secretary for the Department of Youth Resources and Sports, stressed that the Constitution is more than just a written document; it is the foundation of democracy. He elaborated on the historical significance of the day and called for a renewed commitment to our responsibilities as citizens.
Ngullie pointed out that democracy resides in the hands of the people, emphasizing that Constitution Day is not just a celebration of history, but a reminder of our rights and duties. He declared, “Let this day remind us that the power of democracy lies with its citizens.”
John Makhabo, the State Director of NYKS, also shared insights about Dr. B.R. Ambedkar during the event.
In discussing the adoption of the Constitution, he highlighted that Ambedkar, as the chair of the drafting committee, was its chief architect. Mokhabo remarked that Ambedkar addressed the questions raised during the drafting process, making changes based on suggestions. He praised Ambedkar for his extensive knowledge, which contributed to creating a Constitution that is both workable and adaptable, suitable for both peacetime and wartime.
