While Nagaland is celebrating the iconic Hornbill Festival marking 25 years of milestone, the absence of the Khiamniungan morung representing Noklak district in the written list of the Kisama Heritage Village map has triggered a significant concern by the Khiamniungan tribe. The Khiamniungan tribe is an integral part of Nagaland’s rich cultural heritage, and there is an essential aspect of their cultural identity.
Members of the Khiamniungan tribe expressed their disappointment during their participation in the iconic 25th Hornbill Festival at Kisama, citing the absence of the Khiamniungan Morung on the map of the Naga Heritage Village. They urged the government or the concerned department to address the issue promptly and update the map to include the Khiamniungan Morung and ensure its accurate representation highlighting their feelings of exclusion and neglect despite one of the major tribes.

The tribe noted that similar instances of misrepresentation had occurred in various platforms time and again, including a recent NPSC examination where the spelling of “Khiamniungan” was incorrectly rendered, which they viewed as a sign of ignorance. They urged the authorities to rectify these oversights and ensure accurate representation, emphasizing that the Khiamniungan are one of the major tribes of Nagaland and should not be left out.
Despite these grievances, the tribe reiterated their commitment to participating in the festival alongside the other tribes. However, they strongly appealed for respect and recognition, stating that such errors create feelings of marginalization and exclusion.
