Mumbai: PM Modi announces ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh from PMNRF for next of kin of each deceased

13 people, including 10 civilian and 3 Navy personnel, lost their lives after a Navy boat collided with ‘Neelkamal’ passenger vessel near Mumbai coast while undertaking engine trials around 4:00 pm on 18th December 2024. The Indian Navy stated that the craft had lost control due to engine malfunction.

The collision caused the passenger ferry to capsize. Search and rescue efforts were immediately launched wherein 4 naval helicopters, 11 naval crafts, one Coast Guard boat and three marine police crafts have been pressed in action for recovering the survivors.

Over 100 survivors have been reportedly rescued.

President Droupadi Murmu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi have condoled the loss of lives in the boat mishap in Mumbai, Maharashtra.

PM Modi has announced an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh from PMNRF for the next of kin of each deceased and ₹ 50,000 to the injured.
