Noklak: No boundaries should be put between brothers: MP on FMR

Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha) Supongmeren Jamir has said that the demand of the Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO) for Frontier Nagaland Territory (FNT) is for the progress of all citizens of Nagaland.

Speaking to Nagaland Tribine on the sideline of a program at Langnok Village, Noklak district on 15 January 2025, Jamir acknowledged the demand of the ENPO stating that people have got aspirations and got its own vision. He also said that knowing that the issue is genuine, the State Government must have taken note of it. “It will be for the progress of all our citizen”, he said.

The MP expressed optimism the tripartite talk on FNT between the ENPO, Nagaland Government and Government of India has begun on a positive note and is progressing well and hoped that the discussions will find favourable results. However, Jamir also mentioned that the outcome will depend on the stakeholders coming up with reasonable agreement.

On the abrogation of the Free Movement Regime (FMR) in the India-Myanmar border, MP Jamir said that the State Government has to put pressure on the Central Government and appeal that their call is addressed immediately for the welfare of the people. He expressed concerns for the people staying at the border and called for discussion on the subject.

The lone Lok Sabha MP from Nagaland vowed to bring the issue up in the Parliament again. Further, he stated that believes that no boundaries should be put between the brothers. “We have to plea with the Government of India to bring solution,” the MP remarked.
