The Rengma Selo Zi (RSZ) has issued a 30-days ultimatum to T.K. Engineering Consortium Pvt. Ltd. for the immediate maintenance and repair of NH-2 before the onset of the monsoon. In a letter to the contractor dated 10th March 2025, the apex Rengma youth organisation stated that if the necessary maintenance works are not carried out with the given timeframe, it would be forced to take action against the contractor which may include the seizure of the company’s machinery.

“The lack of maintenance has caused severe inconveniences to the public, with landslides, potholes, blocked drainage and culverts, and the collapse of protection walls severely impacting road safety and free movement,” stated the Rengma Selo Zi.

RSZ President Kegwayhun Tep and General Secretary Hiyalo Jemu also stated the following demands in the letter:

“Landslides: Several locations along NH-2 have suffered landslides that have remained unattended for years, reducing the two-lane highway to a single lane in many stretches. The continued blockage of free traffic movement has caused much distress to commuters and increasing the risk of serious road accidents.

Potholes: Numerous potholes have developed at several locations along the highway. Further delays in filling them will only worsen the road conditions, making travel hazardous.

Collapse of Protection Wall: The damaged protection walls need urgent repairs to prevent further erosion and structural failures along the highway.

Blocked Drainage and Culverts: The drainage system and culverts along the highway are choked with debris, leading to waterlogging and further road damage. Immediate cleaning and restoration works are required to prevent flooding and infrastructure deterioration during the monsoon season.”
