The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) has condemned recent appointments in the Higher Education Department, Nagaland for the posts of Assistant Professors of Nagaland. The union claimed that the appointments were arbitrary and bypasses the recruitment process through the Nagaland Public Service Commission (NPSC).
The DNSU views this act as a gross violation of the rights of qualified and aspiring Naga youth who have diligently prepared and awaited opportunities through the NPSC, it stated. Further, the union said that such appointments made based on favoritism and nepotism compromise the integrity of the state’s educational institutions.
In a press release, Hinoto P Aomi, President, and Micheal Kath, General Secretary also mentioned that as per an RTI reply, 144 posts have been arbitrarily regularised in the year 2024-25 in Nagaland and expressed shock that “educated individuals willingly participates in such unscrupulous practices, robbing the deserving students of a chance to write NPSC.”
Furthermore, the student body put forth five demands before the state government “to rectify this grave injustice and restore the faith of the Naga youth in the fairness and integrity of the recruitment processes.” Failure to address this issue will compel the DNSU to launch further agitations to protect the rights and interests of the student community, it added.
The demands made by the DNSU are:
– Immediate Cancellation of all arbitrary appointments: The DNSU calls for the immediate cancellation of all appointments made without following the NPSC recruitment process.
– Strict Adherence to NPSC Recruitment Norms: The Higher Education Department must strictly adhere to the established recruitment procedures through the NPSC for all future appointments.
– Transparency and Accountability: The government must ensure transparency and accountability in all recruitment processes to maintain the integrity of public service.
– Investigation and Action: A thorough investigation into the matter must be conducted, and appropriate action taken against those responsible for these arbitrary appointments.
– Safeguarding the Rights of Naga Youth: The government must uphold the rights of Naga youth to fair and equitable opportunities in public service.
