The Angami Women Organisation (AWO) and Angami Students’ Union (ASU) organized a felicitation program for Angami toppers of the HSLC and HSSLC 2025 exams on May 2 at the AWO Building in Kohima. A total of 23 toppers were honored at the event.
The event’s speaker, Dr. Vitsou Yano, Principal of Modern College Piphema, addressed the challenges students may encounter in higher studies. Emphasizing the need for skill-based education in today’s world, she stressed the importance of setting clear goals and pursuing one’s own dreams rather than those of parents. She advised students to communicate openly with their families and encouraged parents to support their children’s aspirations while maintaining healthy dialogue.
Dr. Yano highlighted the significance of fostering a growth mindset—staying positive, overcoming fears, and learning from mistakes. She urged students to adapt to the age of AI by focusing on understanding rather than rote learning. Additionally, she reminded them to uphold their cultural identity, traditions, and local language, stating, “You are flag bearers of your people.” She concluded by saying that true knowledge begins with the fear of the Lord, which leads to success in all endeavors.
Addressing parents, she also advised them to be attentive to their children’s needs and seek guidance when necessary.

In her message, AWO President Neithono R. Sothu remarked that parents find immense joy in their children’s accomplishments, which bring pride to families. She urged the students to remain grounded, work harder for future success, and stay mindful of their parents’ sacrifices. She said a mother’s most urged prayer for their children’s is to have moral values and advised them to avoid negative influences, choose friends wisely, and always rely on faith and prayer. “Let your parents smile with pride, not shed tears because of you,” she added.
The program began with a Bible reading and invocation by Pastor Mhalevilie Yongo of Victory Church of All Nation. Khriesamhalie David Mere, ASU President, delivered greetings, while Vikhono Senotsu, HSSLC topper, spoke on behalf of the achievers.
