With the monsoon season setting in and heavy rainfall expected during this period, the Mokokchung District Administration has issued a comprehensive public advisory warning of potential natural hazards such as water-logging, flash floods, landslides, and rising water levels in rivers and streams, particularly due to intense precipitation in the hill regions.
In a statement issued by Deputy Commissioner Ajit Kumar Verma, who is also the Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), the public has been urged to take necessary precautions to avoid any eventualities arising from such weather conditions.
The advisory highlights that the district is likely to face inundated areas due to water-logging, flash floods, and landslides. Therefore, as a precautionary measure, the general public has been advised to refrain from venturing into vulnerable spots such as landslide-prone zones and to avoid movement or overnight stays along riverbanks for picnics, fishing, or other water-related activities.
Citizens have been cautioned against taking shelter under large trees during storms and to remain vigilant while traveling on hill roads. Special attention should be given to signs such as cracks on road surfaces and slopes, which should be immediately reported to the authorities.

The public have been advised to stay alert during heavy rainfall and prolonged damp weather, and to steer clear of paths that may be prone to landslides or debris flows.
The DC stated that unusual sounds such as cracking trees or rolling boulders may indicate an impending landslide, and sudden increases in the volume of water in streams—particularly if accompanied by a change from clear to muddy water—should be treated as warning signs.
The advisory also directed all Area Administrative Officers, Heads of Departments, Village Disaster Management Authorities (VDMAs), Village Council Chairmen, Head GBs, GBs, and Ward Authorities to be on high alert and to take proactive measures to address any emergencies caused by natural disasters during the monsoon season.
The advisory stated that riverbanks are to be strictly monitored by VDMAs, Village Councils, Head GBs, and Ward Authorities. Any cases or incidents that occur are to be reported to the following emergency contact numbers: 8731889309; 1070 (Toll-Free Disaster Helpline); 112 (ERSS Extension for Disaster Management); and 0370-2291120/22
The Deputy Commissioner underscored the importance of community-level preparedness and swift reporting to ensure the protection of lives and property.
