Governor of Assam and Nagaland Prof Jagdish Mukhi visited Avankhung village, under Meluri Sub-Division of Phek District on 29 October 2022, and conducted series of interactive meetings with the district officers from various departments, NGOs/Hohos of Pochuri tribe.
Governor Mukhi right after arrival at the helipad at Avangkhu, conducted interactive briefing with Hem Chandra Singh, Commanding officer of 38 Assam Rifle camping at Avangkhu, Phek in which he appreciated the high moral and motivation of the troops
He also conducted interactive meetings with the police and Assam Rifles for proper security condition of the state and international borders.
Mukhi during his interaction with district officers from various departments, inquired about the Jal Jeevan Mission for drinking water supply, Rural Housing Schemes, Rural Electrification programmes, Policy for Farmers double income and Education Policies in the State.
He urged the department officers to handle various kinds of developmental flagship schemes to be properly implemented and said that various programme/schemes should reach the concerned citizens for the development of the state and the nation.
The Governor asked the concerned department officers and district administration to monitor whether the farmers’ income are increasing through flagship schemes for farmers double income policy being brought in the state.
Mukhi further stated that the national income would automatically increase when income of our farmers double.

With respect to the education system, the Governor stated that education is not meant for the teaching of only book knowledge, but said that children up to primary standard should be taught in mother tongue and imparted our own culture and tradition, so that it would create a feeling of unity and patriotism for greater interest our nation.
In the interactive meeting with the Pochuri Hoho and Pochuri Women Hoho, Mukhi urged them to preserve their own culture and tradition which is of utmost important for our future.
With regards to the Hoho’s demand for upgradation of Meluri sub-Division to district, the Governor informed that it is a state subject for which the state govt is taking care of the demand.
Mukhi also conducted interaction meeting with the Business Community of the Pochuri tribe.
Yitachu MLA 20th Meluri A/C also attended the occasion and spoke on the importance and upliftment of the district. Razouvolie Dozo Deputy Commissioner Phek delivered the welcome address, Mhabemo Yanthan (IAS) Commissioner & Secy to Governor accompanied the visit of the Governor. All district officers of various departments in Phek district, and area public were also present during the Governor’s visit.
