The Nagaland Indigenous Peoples Forum (NIPF), led by President Dr T Lima Jamir, held a joint consultative meeting with the Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) on June 27, at the DNSU office in Dimapur. The NIPF delegation included advisor Dr. Temsuwati, general secretary Kikheto Sumi, and vice president Keneiletou Zumvu.

A press statement issued by NIPF President Dr T Lima Jamir and General Secretary Kikheto Sumi informed that during the interaction, the two bodies discussed pressing issues affecting the state, with special emphasis on challenges in Dimapur, Chümoukedima, and Niuland. Both organisations unanimously called on law enforcement agencies and the administration to strictly adhere to established protocols while issuing Inner Line Permits (ILP). They also appealed to the general public and village councils to ensure strict compliance when acting as guarantors or issuing No Objection Certificates (NOC) for non-locals.

Reiterating its commitment to protect the interests of indigenous communities, the NIPF expressed strong support for the DNSU’s ongoing efforts to safeguard the rights and resources of the Naga people. The forum urged the student body to remain steadfast in upholding truth and not to succumb to undue influences.

Highlighting concerns over increasing exploitation by non-indigenous individuals, the forum warned against benami land transactions and the misuse of natural resources, cautioning that Nagaland could face situations similar to those witnessed in Tripura and Assam if necessary safeguards are not enforced.

The two organisations also appealed to civil society organisations, NGOs, churches, leaders, politicians, bureaucrats, national workers, and right-thinking citizens to extend full support to the DNSU in its initiatives for the survival and welfare of future Naga generations.

The NIPF further condemned the recent assault of an indigenous person by non-locals at Murgipatti, demanding prompt and stringent action against the perpetrators to prevent recurrence of such incidents.
